Environment Canada has issued a fog advisory for East Vancouver Island on Saturday.

The weather office warns that “near zero visibility” may occur in the dense fog, which is smothering East Vancouver Island, the Sunshine Coast and the Southern Gulf Islands.

The fog is expected to linger Saturday evening before lifting overnight.

“A relatively warm airmass and melting snow are producing conditions favourable for dense fog,” said the weather office.

“The fog is forecast to lift overnight as rain moves into the area. Visibility may remain poor in rain but is not expected to meet fog advisory criteria,” said Environment Canada.

The advisory comes one day after Environment Canada lifted its snow and freezing rain warnings for most parts of Vancouver Island.
