Sidney and North Saanich firefighters put out a fire on a boat that was in a boathouse at the Cedar Grove Marina.

The two fire departments responded at around 2 p.m. and the fire was out before 2:45 p.m. The boat that burned is a write-off.

Besides the damage to the main boathouse, there was also some damage to neighbouring boathouses. A boat across the water also had damage from radiant heat.

North Saanich Deputy Fire Chief Steve Knapp said no one was on board and the fire department is not aware of any work happening on the boat. The cause of the fire is under investigation but Knapp said it could have been a heater that tipped over.
