Just before 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday, multiple emergency crews responded to a boat fire at Oak Bay Marina.

Upon arrival, a 40-foot boat moored at the marina’s “G” dock was found by Saanich, Victoria, and Oak Bay Fire Departments fully engulfed.

Assistant Chief of the Oak Bay Fire Department Cam Thomson said getting a hose to the end of the dock proved difficult, and that’s where the other fire departments stepped in.

“We were lucky the vessel was at the end of the dock and there was no vessel on the other side of it,” said Thomson.

Officials say no one is believed to have been on board at the time of the fire, and police say no one was injured.

A Canadian Coast Guard vessel assisted firefighters and booms have been placed around the boat to contain any possible leaks.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown. Crews are investigating and are in the process of contacting the owner.
