A home on Oakdowne Road  in Qualicum Beach was destroyed in a fire on Friday evening.

Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department crews responded just before 5 pm

Heavy smoke and flames were showing from the rear of the structure when they arrived.  The fire spread quickly through the house.

Dashwood VFD reports that the home’s occupant was not there at the time and no one was injured.

The house is in a rural part of Qualicum Beach with no hydrants.  Dashwood VFD says crews relied on water tender shuttles to supply a heavy flow of water to knock down a stubborn fire.

Crews from Qualicum Beach, Coombs, Errington, and Parksville VFDs provided additional water supply and manpower. Bow Horn Bay VFD was called in to provide standby coverage.

Dashwood VFD say the home is insured and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
