Fire damages unit in Victoria apartment building


Fire caused extensive damage to a second-floor  unit in a Victoria apartment building this afternoon.

Crews were called to the building at 1100 Queens Avenue near Cook Street at 3:30 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find that a fire had been smoldering for an undetermined time and proceeded to extinguish hot spots.

A Victoria Fire Department Investigator was called to the scene and determined the cause of the fire was from smoking.

There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the one unit.

Damage is estimated at $150,000.
