Crews respond to fire on Larkdown Ave in Oak Bay

Crews from Oak Bay, Saanich and Victoria Fire Departments were called to a fire in Oak Bay near Uplands Golf Course on Tuesday night.

Flames were spotted in the living room of a home on Larkdown Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

“I glanced in the window and saw flames, probably the size of a Christmas tree, going all the way to the ceiling,” said neighbour Luba Kamenko.

First reports suggested there may be people inside the home, so police went in to conduct an initial search but didn’t find anyone.

Fire crews then managed to quickly extinguish the flames, confining the damage to the living room.

“No occupants were located during the police search for the fire search, so all occupants are accounted for safe and sound,” said Oak Bay Fire Dept. Assistant Chief Cam Thomson.

“There were two dogs that were located during the initial primary search, they were brought outside and they are safe and sound as well.”

There is no word yet on the full extent of the damage.

The cause is under investigation.
