The family of a 48-year-old woman struck by an SUV on August 27 on Central Saanich Road say she has progressed from critical condition to stable condition.

They say Tracy Ward is making progress daily but remains in hospital.

Ward and her sister Kim were walking their dogs near their mother’s home when they were struck from behind by a driver in an SUV that crossed the centre line.

Fifty-one-year-old Kim Ward, a massage therapist who worked with Olympic athletes, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her dog Finley was also killed.

Central Saanich Police say they don’t have an update on the investigation into the crash or the 26-year-old man who was driving the SUV. The vehicle involved was a 2019 red Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Police said the same vehicle was also involved in a minor rear-end crash near Mountain Newton X Road and Lochside Drive about 20 minutes before the crash that killed Kim Ward and injured her sister.

If you have information about that crash, please call Detective Chad Vincent at 250-652-4441-ext.3063, or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
