B.C. Ferries is getting set for a busy upcoming weekend with some of the province’s best athletes in Cowichan Valley this week.

The B.C. Summer Games will be held from Thursday to Sunday and the corporation expects more than half of the 3,000 participants to travel with B.C. Ferries.

The company says travellers should expect heavy traffic from the Departure Bay, Duke Point and Swartz Bay terminals Sunday.

In particular, B.C. Ferries says popular sailing times for athletes and other participants heading home will be on the:

  • 4:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. sailings from Departure Bay to Horseshoe Bay
  • 5:45 p.m. sailing from Duke Point to Tsawwassen
  • 5:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen

B.C. Ferries is advising travellers to make reservations Sunday, or leave earlier than 4:45 p.m. or later than 7 p.m. if sailing without a reservation.

Foot passengers are also being told to consider alternate sailing times or arrive early with service expected to reach passenger capacity.
