Esquimalt has found its next chief administrative officer.

The Township of Esquimalt announced Monday that councillors agreed to hire Daniel Horan as the municipality’s new CAO.

Horan, a graduate of the Royal Military College, has spent the past six years as the District of Oak Bay’s director of engineering and public works. He also spent 21 years in Royal Canadian Navy, finishing his career in a senior leadership role within their engineering and maintenance program.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to step into the CAO role in Esquimalt,” Horan said in a press release. “I am looking forward to spending more time in the community, getting to know each of the unique neighbourhoods and the people who live there better.”

Horan replaces outgoing CAO Laurie Hurst, who has been with the Township of Esquimalt for 18 years and is due to retire this fall.

“Council is pleased to appoint Dan Horan as Esquimalt’s next CAO,” said Mayor Barbara Desjardins in a release. “Dan will be a great addition to the municipal team with his strong leadership skills and diverse professional background. We have had amazing leadership under Ms. Hurst and are confident that Mr. Horan will continue the legacy.”

Horan will take over the CAO role on Oct. 3.
