Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement cautioning of a wind storm approaching East Vancouver Island.

The weather agency says that strong southeast winds are expected to hit the coast of East Vancouver Island from Nanoose Bay to Fanny Bay and from Courtenay to Campbell River.

Experts are predicting wind speeds will reach up to 70 km/hr early this evening as a result of a “vigorous frontal system.”

The winds are expected to ease overnight as the system passes by.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds,” cautions the public weather statement.

The front will also impact the Sunshine Coast from Saltery Bay to Powell River.
