Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for northern Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for northern Vancouver Island.

According to the weather agency, a frontal system approaching the north coast is expected to generate winds that could exceed 90 km/h in the Port Hardy region.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” Environment Canada said in a statement on its website.

High winds are expected to last until early Saturday afternoon, decreasing to 40 to 60 km/h later in the day, the agency said.
