An informal survey by the Victoria Electric Vehicle Association says there are 70 per cent more electric vehicles on Victoria-area roads than last year.

Association president David Grove says a one-day count last week recorded more than 17-hundred electric vehicles on city roads, up 70 per cent from last year.

“While our count is primarily a non-scientific, feel-good event, it does provide a baseline of data going forward as we transition to a zero-emission future,” reads a statement from the vehicle association. “It also raises awareness on how many more people in our community are travelling to work in the cleanest, most energy-efficient and least expensive means available – their electric cars.”

Grove says Victoria’s Spring Electric Vehicle Count raises awareness about the growing use of electric vehicles in the Victoria area.

Last week, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was in Victoria highlighting electric vehicle initiatives in the federal budget.
