A Duncan man has defied the odds and walked away with a big $1-million win from the BC Lottery Corporation’s Maxmillions prize draw.

Duncan’s Gerald Long scored the big Maxmillions prize in a Lotto Max draw on April 15, 2022.

In order to win the $1-million prize in the Maxmillions draw, Long needed to predict seven out of seven numbers and according to BCLC, the odds of winning on a $5 play are 1/33,294,800.

In Long’s case, he said that he selected his numbers in a unique way.

“I was picking my regular numbers and then I decided to add an extra line by physically closing my eyes and picking random numbers off of the keypad on my phone,” he recalled. “I couldn’t believe it. I had to do a double-take!”

After learning he had won over the Easter weekend, Long adds that his wife and kids had a hard time believing the news as well.

“She couldn’t believe it,” he said. “Everyone was in complete shock.”

The Duncan man says that he hopes to plan a family trip with some of the prize money and will take his time with what to do with the rest.

“It’s a dream really,” he said on the feeling of being a millionaire.
