Oak Bay police say that one driver with expired insurance and the wrong plates on their truck caused more than $10,000 in damages to a parked car after a collision.

On Sunday, Jan. 14, a citizen flagged down police to inform them that their parked, unoccupied vehicle had been hit by a pickup truck that had fled the scene.

After conducting patrols, Oak Bay police found the truck pulled over on the side of the road with one wheel missing.

The 34-year-old driver made no effort to stop at the scene of the incident, according to police.

Police determined that the driver’s insurance had expired two years prior and that the truck did not have the correct license plate. The driver was issued several violation tickets, including no insurance, failure to stop after a collision with an unattended vehicle and having the wrong number plate.

The driver was also issued a Notice of Order to remove the vehicle from the road pending inspection. The seized plates were returned to ICBC.
