A woman suffered minor injuries after a suspected medical emergency caused her to flip her vehicle near an elementary school in Oak Bay on Friday afternoon.

Police and firefighters were called to the 2400-block of Cadboro Bay Road around 1:45 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Oak Bay Police Chief Mark Fisher says a 2012 Ford Escape struck a parked, unoccupied Tesla before rolling onto its roof.

“A single person was extracted with minor injuries,” said Oak Bay Fire Department Acting Assistant Chief John Vallentine.

Police believe the 72-year-old driver suffered a medical emergency, which caused the crash. She was taken to hospital by ambulance following the collision.

The crash occurred near the field of École Willows Elementary, along Cadboro Bay Road between Tod Road and Dalhousie Street.

No one else was injured in the crash, which closed a block of the street for about an hour and a half as first responders reviewed and cleared the scene.

Vallentine added that he wasn’t surprised to see it was an SUV that flipped over.

“If there’s anything that will go turtle on its back it’s an SUV, they have a high center of gravity,” he said.
