A driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries Monday afternoon after reportedly hitting six parked cars in front of Sidney Elementary School.

Mike Harman, deputy chief with the Sidney Fire Department, said fire crews, RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics responded to the crash on Henry Avenue at around 3:45 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the parked cars was taken to hospital in a B.C. Ambulance.

Harman said there is major damage to six of the seven vehicles. He also said the fire department is thankful the collision happened after classes had been dismissed for the day as the crash happened in the same area where the parents pick up their children.

According to Harman, RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash and impairment by alcohol has been ruled out.
