A driver is under investigation after they struck a hydro pole late Friday night.

The crash caused an outage for 1200 BC Hydro customers in Central Saanich.

Central Saanich police responded just after 6:40 p.m. following reports of the accident on the 6900 block of Veyaness road.

Two police vehicles arrived and found that the driver had fled the scene. A K-9 unit was dispatched and was unsuccessful in locating the individual.

Police were able to track down the driver through family members.

Heavy fog that blanketed many parts of Greater Victoria last night may have been a factor in the accident.

BC Hydro says the power went out at 6:38 p.m. as a result and was restored later that night at 11:55 p.m., 1200 BC Hydro customers were affected. Officials are calling it a significant outage.
