The Pat Bay Highway near Elk Lake was closed briefly Sunday after a driver fell asleep at the wheel and struck two vehicles.

Saanich Police says a white SUV was travelling about 5 km/h southbound when it swerved into the left lane and hit a motorcycle around 1:30 p.m.

The vehicle then hit a Wilsons Transportation bus in the right lane and stopped.

The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries such as bruises and scrapes.

“The driver felt bad and was remorseful and admitted right away what happened,” said Brad Brajcich, Staff Sergeant with the Saanich Police.

“[The public should] be aware of the roads even on the weekend. [Now] with the warm weather and events there is heavy traffic.”
