The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in finding 26-year-old David Arlen Thomas, who is wanted for Break and Enter, and two counts of breaching the terms of his probation.
Police say Thomas is considered violent and should not be approached.
The warrant stems from an incident on March 23 of this year when Thomas allegedly attempted to break into the home of a woman in North Nanaimo, with whom he was in a previous relationship with, said the Nanaimo RCMP in a release on Thursday.
On that night at approximately 7:15 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of an attempted break-and-enter into the woman’s home. The caller told police she fled her home with her child when she saw a man that she knew trying to pry open a locked window.
The male suspect was identified as David Thomas who from earlier convictions, was not allowed to return to the home of the woman and was prohibited from possessing break-in tools.
The suspect had already fled when police arrived, and officers have been unable to find him ever since. Investigators are actively searching for Thomas and believe that he is actively evading police.
Months later on June 7, Thomas allegedly broke into the same house again, while the woman was home.
Police say she was able to get away, but she was chased by Thomas who then reportedly sprayed her with bear spray.
She was not seriously injured and Thomas fled on his bicycle before police arrived.
“These were terrifying experiences for the female and it appears the violence is escalating,” said Constable Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP. “We are doing what we can to help with her personal safety and we are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Thomas and to hold him accountable for his actions.”
Police describe Thomas as Indigenous, 5 foot 7 inches, 140 pounds and the picture above is recent. The RCMP would also like to note a very distinctive tattoo on Thomas’s outer left forearm which spells “INDIAN”.
