Thumbtacks were found by cyclists on the Galloping Goose Trail on Oct. 24, 2018.

A cyclist is warning those who use the Galloping Goose Trail in Victoria and Saanich to ride slowly and carefully after dozens of thumbtacks were found strewn across the path.

Diana Hickman was riding along the Galloping Goose Trail on her way to the Uptown Shopping Centre on Wednesday afternoon when she saw a group of other cyclists had stopped.

Hickman said the group was collecting dozens of tacks that had been thrown across the path. She said the group counted 50 or 60 thumbtacks and many were covered with leaves.

“I guess someone doesn’t like cyclists but at the same time you could say that you don’t like anyone using the Goose at that point,” Hickman said.

“You could step on it, your dog could get it.”

Public works staff were called to the area to clean up any remaining tacks.

Victoria police said they did receive a report about the thumbtacks but don’t have any information at this time to suggest the thumbtacks were left with any malicious intent.

Anyone with information is asked to call VicPD at 250-995-7654.
