Crews worked Saturday morning to clean up a spill of crude oil that occurred during a transfer from a barge to the Shell Puget Sound Refinery on Friday evening.
The Washington Department of Ecology tweeted that the spill occurred around 11:45 p.m. Friday while 5 million gallons of oil were being transferred from a Crowley Maritime barge to the facility.
The Department said that a containment boom was in place and 20 gallons of water spilled, with 5 gallons of oil in the water and the rest on the barge. The oil left a sheen on the water covering an area approximately 225 by 30 feet.
The Department added that no shorelines or wildlife were affected by the spill.
