Atmospheric river brings high winds and chance of flooding to West Coast

An atmospheric river (a thin corridor of concentrated moisture in the atmosphere) brought heavy rain and wind to the West Coast on Saturday.

Wind gusts of up to nearly 100 kilometres per hour were recorded near Haida Gwaii early Saturday morning.

BC Ferries cancelled multiple sailings along the Cortes Island to Quadra Island route due to high winds.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the inland sections of the north and central coasts, the Sunshine Coast and Howe Sound. According to the warning, localized flooding in low-lying areas was a possibility.
