Fire crews are using a boat to access the fire.

Fire crews from View Royal and Langford are at Thetis Lake park Tuesday afternoon responding to a fire.

View Royal’s fire chief says crews were called at about 4:30 p.m. after a Harbour Air plane flying over noticed the smoke and called it in.

Firefighters had to boat across the lake to access the fire on Seymour Hill.

BC Wildfire Service was also called in to help with a helicopter.

“It’s in a difficult part of the park to access, so once we get water on it we should be able to control it quickly,” chief Paul Hurst told CHEK News.

He said the fire was about half a hectare in size and was human caused.

Just after 7 p.m., Hurst confirmed that the fire was fully contained.

Crews will be on site until sunset and will return Wednesday morning.

This is a developing story. More details will be added as they become available.

Smoke is visible from Thetis Lake Regional Park.
