The Capital Regional District is warning beachgoers to avoid the water at Island View Beach after a sewage discharge earlier this week.

The CRD says a wastewater discharge near the Central Saanich beach may be impacting the marine environment at Island View Beach.

The water quality advisory, which was done in consultation with Island Health, is a precautionary measure as the discharge may pose a health risk.

Beach advisory signs will be posted at the popular beach telling the public to avoid entering the water along the affected shoreline.

The CRD says the signs will be in place for approximately one week until samples confirm the discharge is not impacting the area.
