The CRD and Island Health are asking residents to boil water for one minute until further notice.

The Capital Regional District (CRD) and Island Health have issued a boil water advisory for a section of the Highland-Fernwood water service on Salt Spring Island.

The water quality in the area may have been affected by a water system leak, according to the CRD. They say repairs to the system are currently underway.

The CRD says customers who live on Maliview Drive, Fer de Lance Road, Westcott Road, Hedger Road and Walker’s Hook Road should boil their water “vigorously for one minute” until further notice.

The advisory will be in place until flushing and water samples don’t show a risk to the public and Island Health approves the water quality.

The CRD says to watch their website at www.crd.bc.ca/alerts or their Twitter account for updates.
