Drive BC says that the crash on the Malahat that closed traffic in both directions has been cleared.

Tanya Patterson, chief of Malahat Fire Department, says the department was called to attend the scene.

She says the driver of one of the trucks, which a witness told CHEK earlier was a Ford F150, was trapped in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.

The fire department was able to get her out of the truck and she was sent to hospital in an ambulance.

Patterson says she is not aware of the woman’s condition, but she seemed alert when being sent away in the ambulance.

She says the driver of the other truck did not require an ambulance.

The highway remained closed for a short time following the crash to allow road crews time to clear debris from the highway, but as of 2:31 p.m. the highway has re-opened.

The traffic service says drivers should expect congestion due to the previous traffic delays.

Witnesses report a car crash on the Malahat has resulted in traffic being stopped in both directions.

A witness emailed CHEK, who asked to remain anonymous, said the crash occurred around 1 p.m. and fire, ambulance and police were called to the scene.

The drivers of a Rona truck and Ford F150 collided. A witness says the driver of the Rona truck appeared to be okay and was walking.

The woman who was driving the Ford F150 was trapped in the driver’s seat and couldn’t get out, and citizens rushed to help and administer first aid.

The witness says she was about six cars behind the accident and the woman was responsive while people were administering first aid.

Drive BC says there is a detour in effect. The northbound traffic detour is at Shawnigan Lake Rd, and the southbound traffic detour is at Shawnigan Lake-Mill Bay Rd.

CHEK has reached out to officials for confirmation and will update this story when details become available.
