Police are investigating a crash on Highway 4A in Coombs that sent two people to hospital with injuries Sunday.
The driver of a vehicle crossed the centre line, crashing into another vehicle on the road before hitting a parked vehicle in front of The Old Country Market, according to Oceanside RCMP.
Responders on scene told CHEK News that paramedics from BC Ambulance Service took two drivers to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A witness who was also on scene said she was driving west on the highway just past the market when she was nearly struck by another driver.
“I saw a grey car coming into my lane, almost hitting me and almost hitting another car. I had hit the horn really loud, and I could see him pop his head up,” the witness told CHEK News.
“It looked like he, I thought at first, had fallen asleep, and by the time I turned around, he had already caused a serious accident.”
RCMP say they got a call about an erratic driver and, soon after, were notified of the crash. Officers are now investigating whether drugs or alcohol played any role in the incident.
There is a detour in front of Coombs Country Market #hwy4a after a three vehicle crash, injuring two. You may want to take the Island Highway to the Port Alberni/Qualicum exit instead if you don’t want to be delayed. @CHEK_News #tofino pic.twitter.com/OYaLsz4idQ
