A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Nanaimo on Sunday night.
According to police, the crash happened at around 7:10 pm on Highway 19A in front of the Country Club Mall.
Police, BC Paramedics and City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue were called to the crash
According to police, before first responders arrived, witnesses came to the aid of the 34-year-old woman and did emergency first aid.
However, due to her injuries, she did not survive and died at the scene.
“Her injuries were so significant that even with bystanders providing emergency first aid and BC Paramedics following up with emergency first aid she couldn’t survive and she died at the scene.
Police said the woman, who was driving an older model Hyundai, collided with a newer model SUV occupied by a man and a woman.
Both received minor injuries and were transported to Nanaimo hospital for treatment.
Investigators spoke with the injured parties and several witnesses, police said.
Although the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, police said it is known that the woman was travelling southbound on Highway 19A.
At one point, her vehicle swerved, struck the median then landed in the northbound lanes and collided with the SUV.
The BC Coroners Service was also at the scene, along with officers from the Nanaimo RCMP Traffic Unit and an RCMP Traffic Re-Constructionist officer.
Three of the four lanes were closed for several hours while the scene was investigated. Both vehicles were removed from the scene and the victim’s vehicle will undergo a mechanical inspection.

The name of the woman has not been released.
