Repair work on a closed section of a popular walking trail in the Cowichan Valley is about to begin.

A section of the Cowichan Valley Trail, between Holt Creek Trestle and 64.4 Mile Trestle, has been closed since February after it was washed out, which caused unsafe conditions.

Last week, the B.C. government announced work is about to begin to repair the washed-out section of the trail and is expected to be completed by mid-October.

“The ministry thanks people for their continued patience during the closure of this popular trail and will advise the public when it has reopened,” the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure said in a government press release.

The ministry says Riverbottom Road access point and the washout site will remain closed to the public to facilitate construction activities and that signage will be posted at major access points.

There will be no detour available for the duration of the closure.
