Cowichan Bay teenager strikes Canada Games Gold

Earlier Monday in Winnipeg, Desirae Ridenour of Cowichan Bay captured gold in the Women’s Triathlon.

The 17-year-old Cowichan Secondary grad completed the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and the 5-kilometre run in a time of 1:04:39.40. Her teammate and fellow islander Hannah Henry of Victoria finished less than 30 seconds behind in second place.

The medals were Team B.C.’s first gold and silver of the Canada Games.

The Canada Games run from July 28 to August 13.
