Two more schools on Vancouver Island have experienced recent exposures to the novel coronavirus.

Island Health has added Spectrum Community School in Saanich and Brechin Elementary School in Nanaimo to its COVID-19 exposure list.

The reported exposure at Spectrum Community School – located on Burnside Road – occurred on March 8, 9, 10, and 11.

The reported exposure at Brechin Elementary School – located on Millstone Avenue – occurred on March 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, and 12.

According to Island Health, exposure is defined as a single person with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 infection who attended school during their infectious period.

Possible exposures have been reported at multiple other schools on Vancouver Island in recent days, including Victoria West Elementary and Cedar Elementary School.

A full list of active exposures can be found here.

Island Health notes that if a parent or guardian sees a notification on their school exposure list, it does not necessarily mean their child has been exposed to COVID-19.

If a parent or guardian does not receive a phone call or letter from Public Health, a child can continue to attend school, according to Island Health.
