Mounties are hunting for a man suspected of robbing a store after stabbing an employee on Friday night in Courtenay.

According to the Comox Valley RCMP, a man walked into a business in the 1000-block of Ryan Road in Courtenay at around 8:20 p.m. on Sept. 18, stabbed a female employee, then stole money and cigarettes as a co-worker attending to the victim.

RCMP said the suspect fled through the front door of the business and was seen running through the parking lot behind the Mex Pub and Washington Inn Apartments, and has not been located.

“We are confident that there are people who will recognize the male or who may have seen the suspect after he left the store. Please, if you were in the area, take the
time to think back about everything you saw. Additionally, if you were driving through the area, please review any dashcam footage you might have,” Comox Valley RCMP Const. Monika Terragni said in a press release.

The suspect is described as a five-foot-nine thin build Caucasian male between 20-30 years-old. He was wearing a cloth face mask, blue jeans and “possibly a black Iron Maiden hoodie with white writing down the left arm” at the time, according to RCMP.

Investigators from the major crimes unit and the RCMP’s Integrated Forensic Identification Section and Police Dog Service are investigating.
