Comox Valley RCMP believe speed was a factor in a collision on Highway 19A that sent two people to a hospital with serious injuries on Thursday.

Police said at around 11:40 a.m., a 2017-model silver Toyota was going north when it clipped another vehicle. The driver of the car then went off the road and hit a tree.

According to RCMP, there is an indication that a high rate of speed was a component in the collision.

The 26-year-old male driver and a 25-year-old female passenger, who are both from Courtenay, were airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries.
