The Comox Valley RCMP are investigating a sexual assault near a rope swing along the Puntledge River in Courtenay.

The incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 2, and RCMP in a release Wednesday say Mounties are “actively investigating” the allegation and seeking witnesses.

“Police are looking for anyone who (was) travelling the river in that area between 3 to 10 p.m. during that day as they may have crucial information about this incident,” according to RCMP.

The swing’s exact location was not disclosed.

The Puntledge River runs from Comox Lake, past the Inland Island Highway, to Courtenay, where the strip near Puntledge Park is popular with tubers during the summer months.

Police add that due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, “no further details can be released at this time.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
