The heat wave is the second of the summer for 2021 for the island.

A mid-island district is looking to beat the hot temperatures with cooling centres as another heat wave hits parts of East Vancouver Island.

The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) announced Thursday that multiple cooling centres and water parks will be open for residents without adequate shelter or who want a reprieve from the heat.

While the heat wave is warned for most of East Vancouver Island, the City of Victoria does not appear to be opening any cooling centres. They’re asking people to use water and misting stations to cool off.

“If you’re looking for a place to cool off, both the watering can and playground splash pads in Beacon Hill Park are open from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily,” said the city in an announcement Wednesday.

They also say misting stations are available at Royal Athletic Park during community access times as well as Thursday from 5 – 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

The City of Victoria asks residents to stay hydrated and avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day.

The city says they will monitor the weather and open more facilities as they are able.
