Comox flight cancelled Wednesday after man runs onto WestJet aircraft, threatens crew

RCMP say a WestJet flight from Edmonton to Comox was cancelled on Wednesday after a man ran down a boarding ramp and onto the aircraft.

Police said the incident happened around 3:30 p.m.

According to police, the 41-year-old man also made threats to the flight crew members, who were on board for pre-flight briefings. The crew left the plane and the man damaged a door on the aircraft before officers arrived to take him into custody, police said. No injuries were reported.

WestJet flight 339 from Edmonton to Comox, B.C., was cancelled ” prior to departure due to an incident involving an unruly guest,” the company said. WestJet flight 339 from Comox to Edmonton was also cancelled.

“We apologize for any inconvenience these cancellations may have caused our guests but safety is always our top priority. All guests were provided accommodation options through either Calgary, Vancouver or on today’s direct flights from Comox and Edmonton,” WestJet spokesperson Lauren Stewart said in an email on Thursday.

No passengers were on board at the time of the incident. Charges are pending against the man.
