A man suffering from an opioid overdose was saved by community members and police Thursday morning.

Police were flagged down in the 900-block of Pandora Avenue around 3 a.m. Thursday for a report of a man suffering an opioid overdose, according to Victoria Police.

They say the man was found laying on the sidewalk, and members of the community had already administered naloxone to the man before police arrived however, he remained unconscious without a pulse and wasn’t breathing.

Officers gave the man more doses of naloxone, inserted an airway and gave rescue breathing for 15 minutes until BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived, according to police.

They say the man eventually began to breathe and regain consciousness but refused medical treatment and declined a hospital follow up.

VicPD say no one was arrested or will be charged related to the incident.
