A rally of support is pouring in after the unexpected passing of Victoria’s “bus boy” last weekend.

A GoFundMe page has raised nearly $5000 for the mother of four-year-old Dominic Orr, who loved buses and passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning.

Dominic was born with Prader-Willi syndrome, a genetic disorder due to loss of function of specific genes.

Symptoms include weak muscles, poor feeding, and slow development.

Affected individuals develop an insatiable appetite, which leads to chronic overeating and often leads to type-2 diabetes.

The page was started Monday with a goal to raise $25 thousand to ease the financial stress on Stephanie Orr in dealing with her loss.

A petition on the change.org website has also been started, calling on B.C. Transit to name a double-decker bus after Dominic.

Stephanie Orr responded by saying her son “would absolutely love this.”

B.C. Transit issued a statement saying, “B.C. Transit staff are saddened by the passing of Dominic Orr “Bus Boy”. The discussion around transit the last two days has been about how great it was to have him come to the transit centre and see his smiling face.”

“To honour Dominic, B.C. Transit will be giving Dominic’s family a framed photo from his visit to the transit centre. We have also shared the news with all staff and staff are remembering Dominic in their own personal ways.”
