Sequoia Coastal Coffee's Royal Bay location has closed temporarily after one of their employees tested positive for COVID-19.

A Colwood coffee shop has closed temporarily due to COVID-19.

Sequoia Coastal Coffee’s Royal Bay location has closed until Jan. 30 after one of their employees tested positive for the deadly virus.

The company said in an announcement on social media that they became aware of the positive test on Saturday (Jan. 6) evening and have been closed since then.

“Our staff and customer health is our number one priority and we will re-open only when it is completely safe to do so. We will continue to support our team members throughout their recovery,” Sequoia Coastal Coffee wrote, adding “the risk of transmission to the public is low as we follow strict safety protocols.”
The employee, before showing any symptoms, worked Jan. 11 to Jan. 14 from 11:45 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Jan. 15 from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Sequoia Coastal Coffee says they are working with Island Health and that the location will undergo “extensive” professional cleaning. They also said all employees will be tested and will only be returning to work after receiving a negative test result.

The Royal Bay store is located on Latoria Boulevard in Colwood and has only been open for a few months.
