CHEK Upside: Island woman creates delivery boxes showcasing local artisans
WatchJulie Paul's Local Artisan Boxes are bringing Vancouver Island small businesses' products right to front doors across Canada.

A View Royal woman is showcasing the talents of local artisans with a new company.

Julie Paul’s Local Artisan Boxes delivers products from across Vancouver Island right to subscriber’s doorsteps.

“You can receive the box at your house every two months or you can buy a single box as long as there are some still available every two months,” says Paul.

The items in the box change monthly, with a wide variety of different feature products. Although most items are slowly revealed on Paul’s Instagram page, some aren’t.

“It’s highly consumable, usable items within the box,” says Paul. “Things that you’ll hopefully be able to use yourself or easily share with others.”

Paul has long supported local small businesses and with the pandemic easing her workflow as a massage therapist, she says now was the perfect time to help out.

“I thought I would be able to help out local vendors as well as to spread the local wealth of amazing artisan products across Canada and locally as well,” says Paul.

Several trial boxes have been successful and have provided a much-needed boost for businesses such as Martha’s Delectables.

It’s been a huge win-win, we have had an amazing year as Martha’s Delectables, and collaborating and partnering with all these local vendors and businesses has been so empowering for the community as a whole,” says Martha’s owner Martha Barber.

The experience has been equally rewarding for Paul.

“We work together so that they’re benefiting,” she says. “It is an entrepreneurial adventure for me as well, it’s a little business for me as well.”

It’s a small way to help small businesses.

“It’s been really amazing to connect with them and hear their stories and be able to help them along and also I get to sample some pretty amazing products,” says Paul.
