Nanaimo RCMP say a 33-year-old man from Cobble Hill has died following an ATV crash that occurred on a service road about 18 kilometres from Nanaimo Lakes Road on May 29.

A 33-year-old man from Cobble Hill has died following an ATV crash in the Nanaimo area.

The incident occurred on a service road about 18 kilometres from Nanaimo Lakes Road at around 9:30 p.m. on May 29, according to Nanaimo RCMP.

Nanaimo Search and Rescue, paramedics and police were able to locate a group of riders and the injured man using GPS from cell phone pings.

“NSAR immediately commenced emergency first aid for an extended period of time. Despite their efforts, the male did not survive and died from the injuries he sustained,” Nanaimo RCMP media spokesperson Const. Gary O’Brien said in a press release.

BC Coroners Service has confirmed the death.

After speaking with the group of other riders and based on their statements, Nanaimo RCMP said the death appears to be accidental and is not suspicious.

The man’s family has been notified and the coroners service is continuing with their investigation.
