WATCH: In a five-set thriller, the Claremont Spartans boys volleyball team took down the Oak Bay Barbers in the Island AAA Boys Volleyball final.

The game was purely for Island supremacy, with both teams advancing to the Provincial Championships later this month, along with Dover Bay and Reynolds.

For Claremont, the Spartans were looking to defend home court against their cross-town rival, and got things going early, taking the first set 25-16. However, the Barbers stormed back in the second to tie it at 1-1.

The third set was handled by Claremont, and in the fourth set, things got wild. The two teams traded points back and forth, until at 26-25, a net violation gave Oak Bay the tying point.

After a failed serve from Claremont, a monster block from Oak Bay captain Brandon Thom gave the Barbers the set, sending things to the 5th.

In the final set, Oak Bay took the early lead, but the Spartans battled back to take the final set 15-13. Both these teams will meet again at Provincials, with both teams sharing the same pool once the tournament rolls around.

In AA boys volleyball provincials, Lambrick Park, PCS and St. Michaels will represent the Island.

As for the girls AAAA volleyball Island Championships in Nanaimo, it was the powerhouse Belmont Bulldogs taking top spot over Oak Bay in the final, with Reynolds taking third spot.
