Claire Eccles makes historic first appearance with HarbourCats

LHP Claire Eccles throws 2 innings, gives up two runs in her HarbourCats debut.

Becoming the first female to ever pitch in the West Coast League, Claire Eccles made history on Wednesday night when she came out of the bullpen for the Victoria HarbourCats in the eighth inning. It was a monumental moment for women in sport, and something fans in Victoria won’t soon forget. While at the beginning of her outing, Eccles was shaky and struggled to find the strikezone, the 19-year-old knuckleballer recovered well and finished strong to end the game. Despite the lopsided 9-0 loss for the HarbourCats last night, that’s the last thing that will be talked about.
