Victoria’s Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre is set to be teeming with circus insects in June when Cirque du Soleil arrives in town to perform OVO.

The show will feature 100 performers from 25 countries putting on acrobatic displays in celebration of the beauty of insects, where performers will bring audience members into a world of energy and movement, where they’ll work, eat, crawl, flutter, play, fight and look for love.

OVO, which means “egg” in Portuguese, will be performed seven times at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre from June 16 to 19.

“When a mysterious egg appears in their midst, the insects are awestruck and intensely curious about this iconic object that represents the enigma and cycles of their lives,” reads Cirque du Soleil’s description of the show.

“It’s love at first sight when a gawky, quirky insect arrives in this bustling community and a fabulous ladybug catches his eye – and the feeling is mutual.”

Since the show’s opening in Montreal in 2009, it has entertained more than seven million people in 155 cities around the world, spanning 26 countries.

Event-goers can expect “mighty crickets bouncing off trampolines” and “a hypnotic spider contorting inside her web” as part of the vibrant display of “biodiversity and beauty.”

If fans are buzzing to get tickets immediately, they can be found on sale now at cirqueclub.com, the company’s free membership program.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on April 19 here.
