An 18-year-old man is dead after a crash in the Cowichan Valley over the weekend.

The crash happened on Sept. 23 just before 6:45 p.m. in the 7000-block of Hillcrest Road.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said a Jeep had rolled off the roadway and when officers arrived, they found the vehicle on its side. An 18-year-old man was discovered deceased at the scene.

Police said early investigation indicates the driver, an 18-year-old woman from Mill Bay, was enroute down the hill to get help for her friend, whose Jeep was stuck further up the road. The driver then lost control and the vehicle flipped.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash along with the BC Coroners Service.
