The Canadian Forces Snowbirds are back on Vancouver Island for their annual spring training exercises.
Beginning Wednesday, Snowbirds pilots will hold practices daily at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. subject to weather, until spring training ends on May 11.
This training season is a little different than past seasons, according to CF Snowbirds spokesman Capt. Gabriel Ferris.
The air show season in Moose Jaw, Sask. was hampered by bad weather, blowing snow, poor visibility and high winds, said Ferris.
It means that this year, onlookers in the Comox Valley will see the Snowbirds actually building out their air show instead of running the finished version daily.
“The heart [formation], for example, getting a nice heart shape is not as easy as it looks like. They might see mittens for the first few shots,” said Ferris.
Snowbirds will fly twice a day at 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in April, and at 12:40 p.m. and 4 p.m. in May.
Heading to our second home from 19 April to 11 May for training! We always look forward to the warm welcome of the Comox Valley. 😁 pic.twitter.com/DOT5Jlu3zQ
