The discount airline Swoop, a WestJet owned company, has postponed its plan for a Victoria route.
In a media release Tuesday, Swoop said due to the impacts of COVID-19, it had postponed planned seasonal service to Victoria, Kelowna, Charlottetown, Moncton and St. John’s and continues the current suspension of services to London and Winnipeg until October 24, 2020.
Swoop is also extending the temporary transborder and international route suspensions through September 13, 2020.
“We understand and share our travellers’ disappointment in this news,” Bert van der Stege, head of commercial of Swoop said in a statement. “Swoop is committed to working closely and collaboratively with our strategic airport partners to ensure Canadians have critical access to affordable air travel. We thank all our travellers, Swoopsters, valued airport partners and industry colleagues for their support during this time.”
Swoop also released its updated domestic schedule for summer with flights operating between July 1 – September 13, 2020. According to the self-described ultra-low-cost airline, while the schedule is reflective of the impacts of COVID-19, the airline’s summer schedule also shows signs of recovery with increased route frequencies representing a 70 per cent increase in total available seats, compared to May.
