Canada Post has continued to suspend delivery in some parts of Vancouver Island and other areas of B.C. due to wildfire smoke from the United States.

According to Canada Post, due to the poor air quality in central and southern B.C., there are various delivery alerts in place for Sept. 15.

Red Delivery service alert

A Red service alert means Canada Post is suspending delivery for the day and not sending delivery agents out, as air quality conditions have made it unsafe. Delivery will resume once it is deemed safe to do so. The following regions will not have deliveries today, according to Canada Post:

  •  Castlegar
  • Cloverdale
  • Duncan
  • Ganges
  • Mayne Island
  • New Westminster
  • Okanagan Valley
  • Sooke
  • Trail
  • White Rock

Yellow Delivery service alert

A yellow service alert means Canada Post is still making deliveries, but there may be delays in parts of central and southern British Columbia and specifically these regions:

  • Abbotsford
  • Campbell River
  • Courtenay
  • Cranbrook
  • Kamloops
  • Kimberly
  • Parts of Metro Vancouver
  • Nanaimo
  • Nelson
  • Parksville
  • Powell River
  • Surrey
  • Vernon
  • Greater Victoria area

Canada Post said an alert can be issued for a particular community or an entire province, depending on the weather event.

All of Vancouver Island, the Southern Gulf Islands and large portions of southern B.C. are under a smoky skies bulletin due to wildfire smoke coming from the western U.S.

The province says more smoke is expected late Wednesday and early Thursday in the southern part of B.C.

However, the province also said in the longer term, more substantial improvements to air quality are expected due to a change in weather.
