Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled the launch of a new mental health portal for Canadians who need support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a national address on Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled the launch of a new mental health portal for Canadians who need support during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The online hub, called Wellness Together Canada, is available online or on the national COVID-19 app and it offers mental health resources, tools, and access qualified mental health professionals when needed.

“If you are feeling overwhelmed, know that you are not alone and there are people who can help,” said Prime Minister Trudeau from a press conference in Ottawa.

When landing on the mental health portal, there is a button that says ‘Get Started.’ From there it will prompt you to create an account, followed by asking a series of questions in order to guide you to the tools best suited for your needs.

“We’re here for you and we’re making sure there are tools and resources available to help you,” added Trudeau in a tweet sent out on Wednesday.

The mental health portal says it offers modules in “low mood, worry, substance use, social isolation and relationship issues.”

Financial stress, anxiety, loneliness and job uncertainty are presenting daily challenges, according to Wellness Together Canada and are encouraging all Canadians to reach out if they are feeling a need.

“If you need to, please reach out. We’ll be there for each other,” said Trudeau.

There are texting options on the Wellness Together Canada hub for youth or adults who need immediate assistance as well.

The launch of the mental hub came at the same time that the Prime Minister announced plans to expand the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, while topping up wages of essential workers.
