You can now book a campsite at a provincial park this summer.

B.C.’s online reservation website www.camping.bcparks.ca opened at 7 a.m. Monday (March 21), allowing users to reserve a camping site at various provincial parks.

A statement from the Ministry of Environment says by noon, more than 17,000 reservations were made on the website, 97 per cent of which were made from within B.C.

At 7 a.m., the ministry says there were 23,000 in the queue to book, and the queue was cleared within 45 minutes.

Sites are available for reservation two months ahead of the desired arrival date at most campgrounds. However, reservations for group campsites open March 24 and reservations for the popular Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit open in early April.

The provincial government has rolled out a brand new online reservation system that is intended to be easier to use than the previous website. The new site features improved search options such as a map to search campgrounds by region, park listing or site availability.

A detailed list of campground operating dates and reservable dates can be found at www.bcparks.ca/operating-dates/

The ministry says BC Parks manages 10,700 campsites in the province, 55 per cent of which are reservable, and 45 per cent are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
